General Product Questions

To get started, we recommend our compact and exceptionally easy-to-use systems, such as Intra LED, Certo, or the Integra series. These offer a wide range of professional features and are suitable for a broad spectrum of applications.

If you require greater power reserves or maximum flexibility, we recommend our Expert D flash units and the Tria 24 F generator with compatible flash heads.

We would be happy to assist you in selecting the right solution for your needs. You can find an overview of all systems in our product overview.

You can find out more about our company philosophy here under "Made in Germany."

Whether in a photo studio, in industrial manufacturing, or at a theme park - when exceptional lighting technology is required, Hensel is often the name behind it.

Photography represents our largest field of application; our equipment and light modifiers are used wherever light is needed, whether for classic studio photography or on-location shoots.

In the industrial sector, our systems often operate behind the scenes: they cure UV coatings, enable non-destructive material testing, and ensure the durability of labels and markings in professional printing systems.

In specialized applications - such as theme parks - our flash systems ensure that visitors on rides are perfectly illuminated, even at high speeds. And the lightning for an artificial storm at one of the world’s largest theme parks originates from our lights.

From photo studios and industrial facilities to unique, specialized applications - wherever exceptional lighting technology is required, we work with our customers to develop the ideal solution.

Our light shapers and softboxes feature the proven Hensel EH mount with a 10 cm diameter. We offer suitable adapters for many popular flash systems from other manufacturers, allowing Hensel softboxes to be used with third-party systems.

You can find the available softbox adapters in our shop under the "Light Shaper Accessories" category.

Depending on the model, Hensel flash units can be triggered either via cable or wirelessly. Many units also offer convenient remote control capabilities, allowing you to adjust power output and other settings directly from your shooting position. You can find suitable transmitters and receivers in our range of accessories.

Yes. With the Hensel Remote App, you can conveniently operate compatible flash units using your smartphone or laptop. Whether a unit is mounted high up on the studio ceiling or integrated deep within a complex lighting setup, all key settings can be easily adjusted without having to leave your shooting position. This saves time and ensures a more efficient workflow.

The freemask function allows you to quickly create precise cut-out masks during your daily studio workflow. Even the finest structures, details, and areas of transparency are rendered perfectly.

Using your camera's continuous shooting mode and the Hensel freemask transmitter, two images are automatically made with each release: the first lights up the subject (1), while the second illuminates only the background (2). This backlit shot allows for the creation of a pixel-perfect mask (3) during post-production.

The freemask function is already built into the Expert D and Integra Plus flash series as well as the Tria 24 SF generator; all you need is a freemask transmitter, and you are ready to go!

Within Germany only - Subject to availability, we are happy to provide you with a rent device while the repair is being carried out.

Please discuss this request with our service team at +49(0)931/27881-19, ideally before sending in the device. We would also be happy to inform you of any potential costs involved.

For many units, you can replace wear parts - such as flash tubes, protective glass domes, or modeling lamps - yourself. You can find these spare parts in the "Accessories" section of our shop.

Please ensure that repairs to the unit itself or the replacement of permanently installed wear parts are carried out only by our headquarters' service department or by authorized Hensel service partners. This preserves the operational safety, warranty, and value of your equipment.

In the Hensel shop, you will find the corresponding devices listed in the spare parts' product descriptions.

Flash Basics

  1. The short flash durations (and rapid recycling times) of modern compact flashes and studio strobe systems allow you to "freeze" motion.

  2. Flash is highly effective. Standard continuous light sources often reach their limits quickly, especially when working outdoors - for example, in direct sunlight.

  3. When using high-resolution cameras, the short flash durations of high-quality units ensure the sensor's full resolution is utilized, as camera shake and vibrations (caused by the shutter or mirror) are eliminated.

  4. A vast array of light modifiers is available for professional flash units, enormously expanding your creative possibilities.

  5. When using flash units, you can control flash and continuous light somewhat independently: by adjusting the exposure time, you primarily influence the intensity of the continuous light (such as daylight).

Flash output is measured in watt-seconds (Ws). This value indicates the maximum amount of energy a flash unit can deliver in a single burst and serves as a guide to its performance capability.

For portraits, smaller products, or many classic studio applications, 250 Ws are often sufficient. However, larger subjects, shots taken from a greater distance, working with a high aperture, or shooting against the sun often require higher flash output.

The right output for your needs depends on your subject, your working style, and the light modifiers you use. We are happy to provide personal advice on selecting the right system for you.

Although the two units sound similar, they describe different physical quantities.
  • Watt-seconds (Ws) indicate the amount of energy a flash unit releases in an extremely brief moment -usually within 1/500 to 1/2,000 of a second. This produces a very intense pulse of light.

  • Watts (W), on the other hand, describe the continuous power output of a constant light source.

A simple comparison illustrates the difference: imagine a bucket of water. With a flash, the entire contents are poured out in an instant - briefly, but with great intensity. With continuous lighting, the same amount of water flows out of the bucket slowly and steadily; the power output is distributed over a longer period.

Yes! Thanks to their high consistency and short recycling times, Hensel studio flashes are ideally suited for focus stacking and require fewer exposures per stack. This helps prevent stacking errors.

When using NOVOFLEX focusing rails or Fujifilm cameras, the Hensel 360 Visual App automatically processes the images in the background into a finished stack. This enables fully automated 360° captures using the Hensel 360 Visual App.

If you would like to know more about focus stacking with Hensel, please feel free to contact us!
